An Open Letter to those who are

seeking a church home within the

 walls of Second Baptist Church.

To my Brothers and Sisters in Christ and to the Saints of God who are the called out church of Jesus Christ, our Lord, our Savior and our King.  It is with a heavy heart and a low countenance that I write this from my home computer.  I was a member of Second Baptist Church of Stockton, CA, a church of 152 years.  Not of saving souls as the old website declared but for spreading apostasy and unbiblical church doctrine throughout most of the churches in Stockton.  Unfortunately, I am writing this to possible and potential “lambs” who are being led to a slaughter at Second Baptist.  The condition of this apostate church leads me to write this to anyone who names the name of Jesus as Lord and Savior and seeks a church home within Second Baptist

In 2003, I returned home to California after living on the East Coast for over 15 years.  Minister Wyatt Kenoly & Sister Kathy Kenoly, my mother & father, had already returned from the East coast as well.  We came to Second Baptist by leading of the Holy Spirit.  This statement is made for those who are not of Christ telling anyone that we knew the former pastor of this church before we came to this church.  We didn’t.

From the moment we walked through the door.  There was a dark cloud over the place.  The sanctuary reeked of “death” and smelled much like a funeral home.  The Pastor, Dr. Ronald L. Pate bounded to meet us and greet us.  We were welcomed with open arms but without any warning of the impending battle to come.  We became members in June of 2003.

By early July there were warning signs that this church was a problem.  There was an emergency church call meeting because the church clerk would not read the resignation during church.  The Chairman of the Deacon Board, Mr. Joe Davison had resigned.  One of the other deacons Mr. Joe Kelly, who was ushering that day, came from the back of the church telling Mr. Davison to “tell the church why he was resigning from his post.”  Mr. Davison stated that he was talked to like “a field nigger” by Pastor Pate.  All of this was done while Dr. Pate was on vacation with his family.  I later learned that Dr. Pate had asked Mr. Davison to hold off on his resignation while Dr. Pate was on vacation and to present this to the church during a business meeting.

I was at a loss for words but voted to accept Mr. Davison’s resignation.  Again, I was well unaware of the battle that was to soon to come.

(The below information comes directly from my declaration as part of the 2003 court case against Dr. Pate.  Click here for all court documents related to CV022724)

On September 28, 2003, during the 11:00 am service, Mr. Bob Redmond announced that he and the other deacons at that time wanted to meet with Dr. Pate after service. Pastor Pate from the pulpit announced an emergency call meeting immediately after morning worship services.  Pastor Pate notified the church by stating that the deacons, members of the finance committee, and trustee board and other members stated in the back of the church that there was no longer a need for his services.  The deacons, finance committee, trustee board and other members were seated in the meeting while Mr. Bob Redmond stood up and stated that he and some of the other members wanted Pastor Pate out and that his services were no longer needed.  Mr. Bob Redmond, Joe Davison, and several others began to rail against the pastor and several of the members asked about the charges for dismissal.  The charges as stated by Mr. Redmond were that Pastor Pate never visited the sick and shut in.  I stood and stated that was not true because Pastor Pate had visited my grandmother while she was in the same rest home as a member Mrs. Mildred Lee.  Pastor Pate added that he had gone to see Mr. Redmond while they he was in the hospital.

The members from this dissident group began to leave the church and were heard from inside the sanctuary laughing and stating, “We got him now.”

On Sunday November 2, 2003 Bob Redmond, Joe Kelly and Joe Davison threatened to fight Pastor Pate and I stood and told them this is the house of God.  Mr. Joe Davison stated for me to come down from the choir stand so they could “do me”.   A police office showed up and told the men that they would have an opportunity to make their announcement and they were to listen to the Pastor and not disturb the worship service again.

Pastor Pate asked several members to join him at a meeting held at First Baptist Church in Stockton to discuss with Senior Pastor James Dunn the issues at Second Baptist Church.  We discussed the fight that occurred on Sept. 28 and all of the events leading up to this meeting.   Pastor Dunn serves as the Regional Pastor in our hierarchical denomination American Baptist Churches of the West.  He agreed with Pastor Pate that we should vote to remove the dissident members.  The region would support the members as well as the Pastor in moving forward.  As you will see later on there was little or no help from the regional association.

On Tuesday November 11, 2003 there was a call meeting to remove rogue members from the church.  By a vote of 23 members these individuals were removed by the congregation and not by Dr. Ronald Lee Pate.

The list of removed individuals was:

Mr. Bob Redmond

Mr. Joe Davison

Mr. Joe Kelly

Ms. Eunice Jackson

Mrs. Lerlene Kelly

Mrs. Nora Faye Clipper

Mr. Walter Saunders

Ms. Anne Lou Kelly

It is my opinion that these individuals as well as individuals who are still at this church to conspired destroy the lives of people who love Jesus Christ and name him as their King and Lord.   Each person who was removed received a letter as how to come back to reinstate their membership at the church.   No one chose to follow this course of action.

Two days before Christmas in 2003, Pastor Pate and 200 does were presented with a lawsuit by Ms Nora Faye Clipper.  Ms. Clipper didn’t sue the church directly but sued Dr.  Pate alone but in all reality did sue the church without naming the church.  She was suing him because he acted in accordance with first the Spirit of God as found in Romans 16:17-18.

Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them."  "For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple”

And He acted in accordance with 1 Peter 5:1-3

“The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed: Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind; Neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being examples to the flock.”

We marked those who were causing division in the church. Little did we know that some of the people who stood with us were really part of the problem as well.  These types of lawsuits are not new to Second Baptist.

In 1994, the church sued the Reverend Maurice Williams.  (See the attached letter from the late Ruben Smith Jr.)  Under the leadership of Deacon Luther Miller again removed a good pastor without cause.

Pastor Ronald L. Pate had successfully removed what he thought was the majority of the main troublemakers and demons from the church.    The church moved forward for 3 more years under his leadership and guidance.  In December of 2006, many of us who were battle weary and tired spoke with Dr. Pate and asked to move the last of the problem members to positions of emeritus.  These included the Superintendent of Sunday School and the Church Clerk and several others.  Although they claimed the supported Pastor Pate their true wolf nature began to seep out from under their false sheepskins.

In December 2006, Pastor Pate stopped the male chorus from singing a song that sounded as if they had not practiced.  This is a practice commonly done in the church just to get the congregation involved in singing as well as the worship of Jesus Christ.  Pastor Pate’s actions were justified.  He didn’t name one person, he asked the church to help sing with the choir.  This action caused  a family  to walk out of the church.

The final straw was during a discussion held by Sister Kathy Kenoly and Ms. Mae Smith.  Ms. Smith insisted that the Pastor had told the deacon who walked out to “shut up”.  Ms. Smith walked outside of the sanctuary to discuss this and get witnesses to verify what Pastor Pate had said.  I was an eyewitness to the discussion between Sister Kenoly and Ms. Smith.  Sister Kenoly approached Ms. Smith out of love and because Ms. Smith had been an active Sunday School Teacher as well as a member of the choir.  Ms. Smith decided that she would no long participate as long as Pastor Pate was pastor.  Sister Kenoly came to Ms. Smith out of love and called her on her actions and reminded her of what scripture teaches about disagreements in the church between believers as found in Matthew 18:15-17.  But this verse applies to believers disagreeing with another believer and not to an unbeliever.

“Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother.” “ But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established. “And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglects to hear the church, let him be unto thee as a heathen man and a publican.”

Ms. Smith began to state in the church parking lot a lie and even after she heard from her cohorts that the lie was not true.  She still continued to rail against the pastor.   Mrs. Patricia Pate over heard this heated exchange in the parking lot and told everyone to stop talking about her husband.  By this time there were children and adults gathering around to listen to these women verbally assault one another.  Do I say that I blame Mrs. Pate?  No, if it were my husband I would protect him as well.  I do believe that Mrs. Pate was fed up and tired of the nonsense her family had endured for almost 7 years.  Reverend Pate and his family and 4 other families left the church due to the unstable nature at the church.  They resigned from all offices and capacities at SBC.  This left a very large vacuum.  My family has stayed to help transition the church only then to leave once the work was done.  Under no circumstance was my family the cause for Reverend Pate's departure from Second Baptist Church as it is so widely claimed.

The first act of the wolf pack* was to bring back a person who was removed by vote of the congregation in 2003.  Mr. Walter Saunders was supposedly invited back to the congregation by Mr. Luther Miller and Mr. Nathaniel Dixon.   Mr. Saunders came forward for reinstatement and without following the course of the letter which outlined his ability to restate his membership.  Minister Kenoly spoke with Mr. Saunders and he was told that he was not a member of the church because he didn’t reinstate his membership in the manner that was outlined in the letter he received from the congregation.  He conspired with other members to remove duly elected officers based on a false statements and innuendos.

Mrs. Larcene Dixon stood up for 2 Sundays and told the members of the congregation that there would be a call meeting to vacate the offices and elect new officers.  The bylaws were placed in abeyance in 2003 and the church had been operating based on the bible.

If Mr. Saunders is a Brother in Christ, he never sought out Reverend Pate to ask for his forgiveness in accordance with Scripture (Matthew 18) as well as the request from the congregation to contact our former pastor.  That request came from the congregation not the former pastor.

He never asked for forgiveness from the church as well.  In his statement asking for reinstatement to the church he never explained his actions against a brother in Christ.  I saw no reconciliatory attitude out of Mr. Saunders or a heard verbal explanation where he had been going to church for the time that he was removed from the church.  Nor did I hear him state any explanation to the people who removed him from office.  I only heard that he praised Mr. Luther Miller for all that Mr. Miller had done.  Mr. Saunders, Mr. Luther Miller is not God.  Nor is he the person that woke Mr. Saunders up this morning.  It is the God of Heaven and Earth.  The eternal Holy One who he will stand before on Judgment Day.

Reverend Pate was acting in accordance with the Holy Spirit of God, The Word of God, and the office of Senior Pastor as well as the bylaws of the church and the corporation.  I only wish that he would have stayed and completed the job of removing all of them from offices.

On Saturday May 26, 2007, my father who was the Chairman of the Trustee Ministry and my mother who was the Church Treasurer and I who was the youth director were vacated out of our offices by the wolves and replaced by some of the people who are known problems for this church.

This is how the people in this church operate.  They get you all embroiled in what I like to call “messiness”.  They never wish to have the facts or even hear the facts.  They are wolves.  They are working bring a Pastor in from Sacramento.  They go on emotion and feeling and the leading of demons and not the Holy Spirit.  Paul says to inspect the fruit of every believer.  I know that we live in a society that says “Judge not.”  But how do we tell if people who really claim the name of Christ are for real.  See Galatians 5:16-24

“This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.”  “For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law. Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.”  “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.”

In Matthew 7:15-20 we are taught by Jesus himself to

Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.  good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

You can know Christians by the fruit they bear.

Many of you reading this will ask, “Why rehash the past?”  “Why keep going over it?”  “Why don’t you just move on and find another church?”  I have and I am.  This is a warning for anyone who is looking at this church as a potential member.  DO NOT BE FOOLED.  THIS CHURCH IS APOSTATE AND CULTIC.  They have teachers that don’t believe that the Holy Spirit speaks to you as a believer.  Leaders in this wolf pack don’t show up for bible study at the church nor do they come for Sunday school.  Where are they being fed??  If not at the church, where are they going for the spiritual food which comes from above??

Beware of this church.  It is not a church.  It is a cult.
